A NOTE FROM REV. SARAH
Hi, friends!
Welcome to the Rehoboth Congregational Church website! My name is Rev. Sarah and I have been the pastor at RCC for ten years. I love this church, the people and the community we serve. It is an honor and a privilege to be part of what God is doing here and I cannot wait to see what is next for us!
RCC is a 300-year-old congregation located in the heart of the Rehoboth village. We believe we are called to do church, to live out our faith, while also boldly proclaiming it. We are not perfect, but we are faithful. We believe in upholding Jesus' commandment to love God and love one another and we try to do this in real and compassionate ways.
It will come as no surprise to anyone that the pandemic was hard on our community. Not being able to physically gather seemed surreal at first. The things that we loved to do - worship, sing, pray, serve and eat together, to name a few - were suddenly taken away from us. But I am SO proud of the way that we came together (without actually coming together) and not only survived, but thrived throughout our time of distancing. We moved worship online and instituted nightly prayer services in our Facebook group. We posted Church School videos and provided craft kits to go with them. We hosted drive-thru suppers and monthly communion. We planned fun and distanced activities for our kiddos, like a Candy Crawl at Halloween and a Back to School Scavenger Hunt. Our Missions Committee stayed active, putting together small crews of people to continue their service to the community. Our choir recorded virtual anthems and we produced some of the most beautiful special services.
Now that we are slowly entering a world that seems a bit more like normal, we are happy to be back in our beloved sanctuary and gathering in person again for meetings and other activities. We know that everyone has different comfort levels, so we are taking things slow for now, still requiring masks and inviting people to wear green, yellow or red stickers to indicate their comfort level around crowds.
I hope you will consider joining us for worship sometime. Every week, we sing, we pray and we talk about the ways that scripture relates to our lives today. We laugh, sometimes we cry and we always leave with something to think about for the week ahead. We are currently (and for the foreseeable future) live-streaming our worship services. Our live feed can be found on our Facebook page and a recording of the service is uploaded to YouTube following the service.
If you have children, please bring them with you! We love seeing and hearing children in worship. Don't worry if they make noise - I guarantee my own children are making more noise (or pulling the fire alarm, but that's a story for another day). While Church School is on summer hiatus at the moment, we have activity bags and clipboards with coloring pages for kids in the entryway to the church.
I post all of my sermons to my blog, Preaching in Pumps.
If you are nervous about coming to worship for the first time, consider emailing me to set up a meeting first. I'd love to show you around the building and talk you through our worship services. You can also follow me on Instagram to see some behind the scenes of what goes on.
I hope to connect with you soon!
With Love & Angeltude,
Rev. Sarah
